Remember, you are up against the very best web pages on earth. Some of these pages are very.. very.. Slick. So back off on the urge to use a lot of Flash etc. Competition is fierce. You are not a television production house. Your webpage is similar to an ad, in a major publication, and must be treated with just as much care and consideration. Even though everyone is trying to force the web into something it's not, it is a static medium with a small degree of interactivity. |

What looks good on Netscape may not look as good on Internet Explorer. The colors on any two video monitors will probably be different. The background colors, .jpg files, and .gif files you use must match the text. Many text colors and background colors don't work well together. Combinations of colors must complement the text, not overpower the site content. |
Another design consideration is graphics. If these files are too large they will load slowly, and the person viewing your page will get tired of waiting and move on. How many times have you seen the status bar show that you are loading.... and loading.... and loading.... something.... but nothing is showing up on the screen? This is very bad form, and will make the person viewing your page move on to something else and not come back. Remember, over half of the people on the internet are still using a 56K modem or slower. Just because you are on a faster connection, doesn't mean that one of your customers in Australia is looking at your page at the same speed. |

Most of the biggest search engines use different versions of databases from a few database companies. They crawl your site with a robot. The automated submission software used by these search engine gurus, can be read and filtered out by these database robots. This is not the answer. We submit your site by hand. Additionally, if your page content isn't correct for a given search category, you will never be found. Too much JavaScript is death on the search engines. Links from other sites pointing at your site, is another important factor in all this. We specialize in making sure your content is written with the search engines in mind. We do a monthly search engine maintenance agreement for $100.00 a month, with a minimum of 6 months for any kind of lasting results on the engines. |
Many internet service providers would have you believe their servers can do anything that anyone elses server can do. This is simply not true. All web servers are not created equal. These service providers can buy the latest server equipment, but due to where they are located, geographically, they may still have a small pipe to the internet. Due to the amount of site activity on your site, this can translate into bandwidth problems for your business, with site slow downs and irritated customers. All bandwidth allocations to these web servers are not created equal. If your site is expected to have much traffic, look for something better than a T1 line or T3 line to the internet. Considering server connection speed is one thing, but it follows that many other factors must be considered before selecting a domain hosting service. You need to know what type of building and technical facilities you are getting. Do they have any building Security. What about backup data storage, or backup power. What about fire prevention. When your business is going to be presented to the world, these very important factors must be considered, or later on you will be wishing you had thought ahead. |
